A search and rescue operation is underway for British TV doctor and journalist Michael Mosley who has gone missing on holiday in Saint Lucia.

Dr Mosley, 64, was last seen leaving his hotel in Soufriere on Wednesday morning for a walk.

He was due to return to the UK on Thursday but failed to show up for his flight.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said it is providing consular assistance to Dr Mosley's family.

A spokesperson for the FCDO said: "We are aware of reports of a British national who has been reported missing in Saint Lucia.

"We are providing consular assistance to his family."

Dr Mosley is a well-known TV doctor and journalist who has appeared on shows such as BBC One's Trust Me, I'm a Doctor and Channel 4's Superfoods.

He is also the author of several books on health and nutrition, including The Fast Diet and The 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet.
