Daughter of Sen. Bob Menendez Breaks Silence
Alicia Menendez, the daughter of indicted New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez and MSNBC weekend anchor, has broken her silence on her father's indictment. In a statement on her show, Menendez said she will not be involved in any coverage of her father's case.
Menendez, who is a mother of two young daughters, said she was "deeply saddened" by the charges against her father. She added that she "loves her father very much" but that she believes he is "innocent of these charges."
Menendez's father, a Democrat, was indicted on charges of bribery, conspiracy, and making false statements to the FBI. The charges stem from allegations that Menendez accepted bribes from a Florida eye doctor in exchange for political favors.
Menendez has denied the charges and has vowed to fight them in court. The trial is scheduled to begin in September.
