Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has defended his captain, Samir Handanovic, ahead of the team's crucial Champions League clash with Manchester City.

Handanovic has come under fire in recent weeks after a number of high-profile mistakes, but Inzaghi insists that the Slovenian goalkeeper remains a key part of his plans.

"Samir is a great goalkeeper and he is our captain," Inzaghi said at a press conference on Monday. "He has made some mistakes recently, but he is a very experienced player and I am sure he will bounce back."

"He is a solution, not a problem. He is a very important player for us and we need him at his best if we are to achieve our goals this season."

Handanovic’s recent form

Handanovic has been in poor form in recent weeks, making a number of high-profile mistakes.

He was at fault for both goals in Inter's 2-1 defeat to Juventus in the Serie A last month, and he also made a costly error in the team's 3-1 defeat to Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

However, Inzaghi is confident that Handanovic will rediscover his best form soon.
